hockey is another growing sport on the islands
of Malta with several senior sides in place
and also youth section competitions.
Hockey tours to Malta are
becoming more popular with senior, females
and school tours.
Female hockey has not been
that popular and it has sparkled only a
few years away with the encouragement from
female touring teams from the UK and other
countries in Europe. The Hockey Association
of Malta has been working hard to introduce
this game to the local females by working
on schools in order to attract girls to
the sport. Within the coming years we should
be seeing the results of all the effort,
resulting in the introduction of youth competition
for girls.
All female hockey touring
sides were always accommodated with fixtures
and we usually pair them up in fixtures
against younger male sides or mixed teams
which works out really well.
The Hockey Association
of Malta has also undertaken a great step
by upgrading their facilities and installing
astro-turf on their field. This has taken
local field hockey to another level and
more upgrades are to follow.
The local leagues run between
October and May and this in fact would be
the best time for Hockey touring sides to
visit.
There is also another advantage
to tour in this period being that this is
the low / medium season for tourism on the
islands so very competitive prices can be
secured.
In any case hockey tours
have also been organised during the summer
months and we have always been able to accommodate
all visiting sides wiith the required fixtures.
