Oct 09> Staff were excellent. Maltese staff very helpful. Chip was good company; Jackie a little quiet. The balance of the tour was ideal; quite intense with little spare time. The loss of matches at a late stage on the final morning we had to charter and pay to do something ourselves rather than leave the boys idle al morning. The rest between matches on the last day was about correct as well. The beauty of Malta is the small island, little time for pupils to get into trouble and the agreeable climate at this time of year.

They played some hard games of netball which meant they improved and got lots of match practice and the evening entertainment was great fun. The day at the water park was well timed as they needed a rest day after two days of training and matches. It also broke up the week and provided them with something different to do.

The hotel was very accommodating and its layout and location meant there was little trouble for the pupils to find!

Jul 08> I am writing to you in response to our recent tennis trip to Malta. I was very pleased with the trip over all and whilst in Malta, it was obvious that the boys were really enjoying themselves and were pleased with the trip too.

On my return I asked the boys to fill in a questionnaire regarding their thoughts on the trip, but due to being away from school for two weeks after having given the forms out, I have only received seven responses back.

Even with only less than half the questionnaires back, I think it was clear to see that the trip was a huge success and there are consistencies in the aspects of the trip that were liked and disliked. Only one boy did not enjoy himself due to being very homesick. This was his first time away from home in this way and not really any fault of the trip.

Looking at the responses, the only thing I would leave out for next time would be the guided tour of Valletta. It didn't seem to be too popular. I personally thought it was good and was pleased that the boys were getting some historical information about the island. They found it a little slow and a little too much like being back at school when they should have been playing tennis perhaps.

I am not too concerned that the food and hotel was not rated as highly as it might have been. We were a school party and not after high end accommodation. The hotel was fine for our needs and the staff there looked after us very well. The food, possibly, lacked a bit of variety from one day to the next, but again, was fine, nobody went hungry or got sick.

From my point of view, obviously, the several changes to the flights were a little distressing. In addition, your reluctance to sign the appropriate paper work for my school's Trips Officer nearly prevented us from coming. As it had been done for our trip earlier in the year and that trip had been successful, the Trips Officer turned a blind eye (but was not happy). This paperwork needs to be done for each and every trip. This may influence our decision to use your company again should I decide to run another one. This is a shame, as once there, we had a fantastic time and all went well.

I would like to thank you, Carmela and George for being terrific hosts and taken such good care of us on our visit. I look forward to visiting Malta again soon. Yours sincerely, John Shelley

Feb 08> very pleased with the tour you organised. students enjoyed all excursions and i feel that it was excellent value for money. my only groans are 1) the experience of the opposition - average of age of most opposition was 30.

2) opposition did not bring umpires - very difficult to coach/ substitute players when all teachers used.
luckily i had 2 adults who had some experience playing/impiring netball.
don't feel it is acceptable for
teams to expect touring teams to umpire matches single handedly.

Everything was perfect and we had such a fabulous time we did not want to come home. We did and excursion to Etna and went by jeep to 2700m and walked 300m to the edge of a crater. I was terrified - freezing cold, sulphur blowing and just black lava ! But I did it ! Memorable ! Please see attached picture of the jeep !

We have been back at work a week now.......back in rainy England and back to reality, but I suppose if we were on holiday all the time we would not appreciate it so much.

All of the boys had a great time and, although most of them would never have thought of coming to Malta before, would have no hesitation in coming back. Nov 06 > Over half-term pupils from Years 8, 9 and 10 went on a Netball Tour to Malta for a week from 30 October-6 November 2006. It was an experience of a lifetime and everyone brought great memories back with them. We all formed a special bond and became much closer as a School.

Each day was filled with many hours of netball skills and training, but most importantly it was also great fun. Although we played lots of netball we were also given time to explore the island. One of the most enjoyable days was the water park. The morning we were due to go everybody’s faces were beaming with excitement. The first impression was it looked very deserted. However, this in fact made it twice the fun!! We spent the day running around with friends and having races down the challenging slides, but we never got tired. Even the teachers, Mrs Edwards, Mrs Haacke and Miss Peddle seemed to enjoy it, soaking up every last little bit of the sun. This was only one of the enjoyable fun-packed days we experienced.

Most importantly we all knew that we went to Malta for netball and we made sure that we made the most of practice time. We came back as better individuals, as well as better teams. All our hard work has certainly paid off. Training sessions were hard, sometimes extremely hard, but between the teachers and each other we kept strong and motivated. It was hard work getting up at 6.00am in the morning and having to do fitness. Running on the beach made it that little bit better, especially when it came to practising ball skills. We had to run along the edge of the sea, determined to reach for the ball without the defender getting it, which meant we were all falling in the sea. This definitely kept everyone amused and was a completely different way of training.

We were in Malta on Halloween night, which made it that extra bit special, mainly because that evening we had to dress up. Just to make it even more embarrassing for us we all had to go bowling wearing our costumes! However, it turned out to be a great evening and something we shall all never forget. Everyone had made a great effort and the outfits were amazing, each one creative and original. Eleanor Thomas won first prize for best Halloween outfit and she even managed to take a broomstick and a homemade costume! We all agreed she deserved first prize.

After all the hard training sessions we had endured we were looking forward to putting them into practice. Several matches had been arranged for the tour and we were certainly up for the challenge.

We knew we had to put all our effort into each match. Both the A and B Teams had mixed age groups and this meant we had to work extra hard in communicating as we do not normally mix age groups within school teams. The teams we were playing were of an extremely high standard, but this did not deter us. The B team won two out of their three matches and when the A team lost it was only by a few goals. It was especially hard for the A team’s final match as we were playing the Under 15s National Malta Netball Squad. It was a very close fought match and we were narrowly beaten. It really showed that all the hard training sessions had paid of. After a long day of either hard training or matches it meant we always needed a good meal! Evening dinner was usually at a lovely restaurant. Portions were big so nobody ever left with an empty stomach! During the tour we managed to squeeze in a boat trip, jeep safari, shopping trips, cinema, snorkelling and the Hard Rock Café. This meant we were never bored.

The Malta Tour is something I believe everyone should be involved with in the future if you enjoy netball. For us it was not only motivating, confidence and character building, but we also forged new friendships. A huge thank you must go to all three teachers that took us - Mrs Edwards, Mrs Haacke and Miss Peddle and to all those that helped with the organisation of the trip and the fund raising that went on many months before, from supplying and selling cakes every week to the 24-hour sponsored trampoline.
