Q. What is the minimum age for diving in
Malta?
A. You have to be 14 years or older to be able to dive
in Malta.
Q. What does it take to become a diver?
A. If you want a totally new experience, something
that will give you a great feeling, then you don't have
to look further because you got one at your finger tips.
So long that you are generally fit, it does not matter
how old you are. The Maltese shoreline includes a lot
of very safe dive sites which do not exceed 25 metres
in dept, the visibility is really good and there are
hardly any underwater currents. Apart from this there
are a lot of good schools around the islands who will
make your diving experience a totally safe and pleasurable
one.
We had an 80 year old lady who showed interest in diving
about 5 years ago. She started with the PADI Open Water
Dive Course, she loved it and decided to come back to
Malta to take up the PADI Advanced Water Dive Course.
She still comes to Malta 2 - 3 times every year and
has now got about 115 dives logged on her log book.
She definately has what it takes, what about you?
Q. Are there any special requirements for
diving in Malta?
A. All divers must present a medical certificate to
the Diving School before any diving is carried out.
Otherwise you may get your medical certificate in any
of our schools for around Lm3 to Lm5. If you are reasonably
fit and have no breathing difficulties you should be
able to pass this without any problems, so come and
enjoy your first scuba diving lesson today and have
a great time scuba diving in Malta.
Q. Do I have to dive with a school or can I
dive on my own?
A. To be able to dive on your own in Malta, you obviously
need to have the required qualification (PADI Advanced
Open Water Diver or equivalent) and also a qualified
buddy to dive with. You may get your own equipment or
rent it from any school around the islands, however
you will always have to fill in a Medical Form and should
this raise some questions then undergo a medical test
prior to diving. This application can be processed in
any school around the islands. However it's always recommended
to take up a few dives with a school first to get the
feel of the resort especially if it has been a while
since you've dived.
If you are only in possession of a PADI Open Water
Diver certificate or equivalent you must dive along
with an Instructor or Dive Master.
Q. What type of dives can I do in Malta?
Shore dives, nights dives, under water treasure hunts,
group diving, gozo diving, Comino diving, wreck dives,
boat dives, deep diving, live aboard. |
